Would you drink tanked water?

Say at an airport for example, would you fill up a water bottle in the gents and drink it considering it may be tank fed?

Personally I wouldn`t , what do others think?

Cant say i would rush to use tank water.

Mind you, some customers like to fill the kettle with it in the bathroom when the water is off for a while😱

No!

Funnily enough there seemed to be a spurge of putting drinking water fountains in toilets at one time.

I always felt it was extremely unhygienic regardless of where the water supply came from.

In the eighties I got called out to a posh'ish Hotel in London, the problem was the was no cold water coming through the taps of the third floor
Checked all valves ect thinking maybe some one been fiddling, all ok
checked tank, big galvanized thing, with a few boards spread over the top ,looked in, as my eyes adjusted, saw pigeon feathers floating on top, looked some more saw actually a few dead pigeons in side, looked down at the bottom and their was pigeon bones
There, were they had died, fallen in the tank, and rotted away
Anyway cut a long story short the blockage turned out to be pigeon skulls stuck in the cold feed pipework between the tank and the gate valve about six inches away
Cleaned it all out ect
So in answer to your question do I drink from tank water NO 🙂
especialy in old buildings,even brush my teeth with bottled water

you can get potable drinking water from tanks, with pumps and fittings all passing stringent tests i would of thought that in this day and age all drinking water is clealy identified with a label near the outlet
if in doubt..dink nowt

Yes as Leakylea says you can get drinking water cold tanks. Multi story blocks of flats have them.

The trouble is most Gents especially have auto flushing systems that never seem to work properly and the smell is horrible. Just opening your mouth to take a drink feels as thought your taking in more than drinking water.

i think we live in an age where if your out and about and need water you go and buy some evian and think your cosmopolitan

Thanks for the replies. This all started on another forum where someone said it was a good idea to fill up bottles of water from sinks in the gents toilets to save a few bob.
I pointed out I wouldnt drink the stuff and everyone thought that I was mad . They all assumed that it must be checked and cleaned regularly, signs would be up if unfit etc etc .

I once got 2 bin bags of rotting pigeons out of a tank. There was no water running from the taps..yuck.

I have drunk it from the water at Excel exhibition centre but only once.

I was doing build-up of the stand for a show and was working like a dog. Suddenly realised how thirsty I was. Looked on site for water but nothing.

In desperation I went to the gents and put some tap water in my wash bucket. Drank it and gritted my teeth.

My only thoughts are that during the show we get on really well with the Brita water people (sell water pure taps) and they have their stand hooked up to the water supply. They always let us have the water we need. I assumed the pipework that fed their stand would feed the gents loos. Shame Brita werent around that night of build up!

I also drink hotel water BUT boil it in kettle first.

Excel was the only time I got short and had to take a risk.

Hi. Not without checking the cistern first. The water reg require cisterns to be fitted with screen overflow, lids insulation and so on. This is exactly the same spec. as distribution reservoirs, which can hold millions of gallons of water. Sorry to black dog the pigeon story, but heard of a situation that disrupted the supply to part of a town. The problem being an otter sucked down an outlet from a reservoir and blocking the supply. It caused an hour or two of head scratching, before the fault was discovered. I think the answer might be boil it first. Good luck
