vent
A hydrothermal vent is a fissure on the seafloor from which geothermally heated water discharges. Hydrothermal vents are commonly found near volcanically active places, areas where tectonic plates are moving apart at spreading centers, ocean basins, and hotspots. Hydrothermal deposits are rocks and mineral ore deposits formed by the action of hydrothermal vents.
Hydrothermal vents exist because the earth is both geologically active and has large amounts of water on its surface and within its crust. Under the sea, hydrothermal vents may form features called black smokers or white smokers. Relative to the majority of the deep sea, the areas around submarine hydrothermal vents are biologically more productive, often hosting complex communities fueled by the chemicals dissolved in the vent fluids. Chemosynthetic bacteria and archaea form the base of the food chain, supporting diverse organisms, including giant tube worms, clams, limpets and shrimp. Active hydrothermal vents are thought to exist on Jupiter's moon Europa, and Saturn's moon Enceladus, and it is speculated that ancient hydrothermal vents once existed on Mars.

Any idea what the correct size is for a vent pipe for a vented hot water cylinder, gravity fed? I.e. the one that is continuously rising back up to the cold water feed tank for the cylinder?
Have discovered...
Hi, ive recently purchased a Sp140b adaptor for cement pipe to 110mm plastic. When I've looked the vanes end is fine to put into cement pipe but where it has described the other end as push fit I was expecting to see some kind of o ring or seal for 110mm plastic pipe to slot into. Would I be...

Doing a split level custom build. The plumber wants to install AAV's on some of the lower level lines, a bathroom and a bar sink. There is a way to vent them normally through the roof, it's just more work for him. Which is better? The floor above hasn't been cast and a vent can come up through...
Hi, Our gravity HW tank split and without a long delay the only one we could get was a fully pumped tank. Fairly easy replumb to get the tank in, however on all diagrams I've looked at, the fully pumped system has the open vent coming off between the boiler and the pump, whereas in our current...
TL/DR: Can I have a bend of 90 degrees in the dry section of a 4-inch soil vent?
Hi. I am renovating a small bathroom. There is an awkward part of the wall where the builders boxed off a large section just to conceal the 4-inch soil vent. I realise, of course, that the soil vent is essential to...
Hey, just looking for a little feedback on the mock up I drew. I’m adding a washing machine and a double vanity to a 2” pipe I’ll have mounted into my main drain stack. For the vent off of the vanity, is it necessary? I’ve seen an “all hub 90” that would give me pipe to both vanities, but...

Hi all, hoping you can advise on a couple of problems I need to resolve. Please see photo
1. Not sure why there are two valves (in series) to operate to feed water into the system and raise pressure, but the lower (first) valve leaks water while open. Initially a small dribble, but most...

I have a cloakroom toilet that isn't connected to an outside vent. It's been there 100 years and I don't think it has ever been vented. The floor and wooden paneling were rotten and I ripped them out a long time ago when we bought the house, without ever using that toilet so I don't know if it...
Hi everyone,
I am planning to renovate my small en-suite and to replace the current standard basin with a counter basin.
I have some doubts regarding the trap, I didn't have the chance to remove the basin yet (it's full of sealant) but from what I can see from the camera of my phone, current...
Would appreciate some advice I have a Potterton Suprima 60 Boiler system and a plumber doing a routine inspection of the system has stated in their opinion the system is not safe. This they have raised is due to no vent pipe being fitted to the F&E tank. Is anyone able to say if this information...

My inclination is to change it thoughts?
Hi
I have blocked cold feed into the central heating. I've tried system cleaner and using mains pressure but I cant shift the blockage. Unfortunately I can't cut out the blocked piece of pipe either as it's below the tiled kitchen floor.
So the last option is can I combine the feed and vent...
I have plumbed a 2 bed bungalow, leaving out 1 1/2 wastes under concrete floor for shower and basin as part of first fix. I am now back on site for 2nd fix. The job is in the countryside so all waste goes to a septic tank. The builder ran all outside wastes which includes a 4 inch sewer pipe...
