Hi Everyone,

I need some advice if possible please, I was made redundant from my job of 17 years a month ago, plumbing is something I always wanted to get into.
Now the opportunity has arose, i'm not sure how to get into this.

I am 38 years old and am wondering if i am too old !!

I had a guy visit me from a skills 4 company who wanted £3995 for a few books and a couple of workshops away from home, I wasn't convinced by him and didn't take his offer up.

The college courses are up and running now and i'm not sure what to do next.

I am in stockton on tees in the north east of england.

Many Thanks

David

Hi David

Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy and find helpful

To old at 38 to re train..... you are still a pup

If that is in plumbing, that is your chose, just make sure you do the research and your own due diligence !!

Good luck in what you decide to under take
:)

hi david welcome to the forums
38 isn't too old to retrain, i did it at 46 and it's the best decision i ever made.

Or a driving instructor or tiler or IT specialist or whatever else is in season with the training places.
By all means train to be a plumber if that is what you fancy but do it with your eyes open and don't listen too much to the sales pitch (that is after all what it is)

try it if its what you want, be aware that the raod is long, tuff and full of others!
if i had my time again id be a chippy or spark

There have been loads of people on this forum in the last couple of years talking about their training and then finding it impossible to secure a job afterwards. I've heard of two who have secured a position.

I'm not trying to put you off, but just adding my voice of caution to those above. I was dead lucky after my course that I went self employed and now, three years later, I'm just about earning enough without having to dig into the family savings. Long road, rocky way, but very satisfying now I'm treading water. Next year is a hopeful proper wage!

Best of luck!!
