I've got a leak at the connector next to the p trap under my bath at point 1. on my attached photo.
I unscrewed it and pipe A hardly goes into pipe B - it's almost flush with the start of B. Assume the rubber seal (can't spell) has failed - there's not much chance of water passing through without leaking.

Can I use a female connector to sort this out? Or just a new thingy that you turn? Or what's best interim solution till I get plumber out next week. Two young kids so need showers at some point. I'll keep the tupperware there incase. Just had fresh plaster skimmed downstairs and this has leaked onto it.
Any tips greatly received. Thanks and have a great bank holiday weekend.

Yep as above

Undo the nut slide to the right next you should have a plastic washer (you might not depending on the trap) then you should have a rubber coned washer on the pipe I suspect it’s in the trap where the pipe goes get a small screwdriver and fish it out and install it on the pipe cone facing the trap and push the tube into the trap and slide the nut and tighten all up
