regular customer of mine just brought a flat which has installed a hive smart controller, she has all the bits except the codes to link it to her phone.
Hive wont give her the codes and say its not hers and therefore she has to buy a new one

seems like pretty outrageous position for a company to take.

has anyone come accross this before and are there any hacks or ways round it
 
Yep stnd practice,

normally a fee to give them the code
Ask old occupiers for code
Smash hive off the wall and fit a normal stat

Don't forget it's a bg product
