hi all
Just purchased a solid oak wash stand with marble top, the basin is inset but comes with no pre drilled tap hole. My question is should i purchase a diamond core cutter, make a template and drill the hole myself, or am i likely to hit problems. I am only a d.i.yer so could do with some advice. The marble is 20mm and a stone mason wants 75 pounds, cant find local plumber who is willing to do it. The marble is glued down also so cant really take off.
cheers, john

I bought an expensive basin for a customer which didn't have a tap hole. I phoned the supplier and they said I should hammer it out.

I declined and arranged for them to pick it up and supply me one with a hole already made.

(I've also since had a sink where the tap hole had to be hammered out. As the sink was cheap and cheerful I risked it and it worked.)

I've said this because you might find an indent underneath it, that is designed to be broken out with a hammer as it's weaker than the main body of the basin.

Nice spam. I have done this, with a diamond drill. Look on my website, portfolio, victoriana bathroom. Its a doddle.

Mine was a victorian wooden vanity unit with marble top. The porsa 365 drills mentioned here are top quality.

just realised how old this post is. duh!
