Trianco TRG80 problem

Hi

I see some of you knowledgeable people know about solid fuel boilers and hope you might be able to help me.

I hada TRG80 installed in 2014...all going well. I had to turn it off for some building work in May/June 2015.

However I am now trying to restart it and it goes out after 1-2 days. I have had the installer look at it...chimney swept etc. They think it might be the coal. I think I had grains last time and now have beans. Both from the same supplier....no problems in the past with their coal (I also have a solid fuel Aga with no issues).

There are 4 holes on the fuel regulator...I had it on the top one last year for grains and now the one below for beans. I think I might need to put it on the 3rd hole (ie make the supply to the fire bigger). My reasoning for this is that the first time I tried to light the fire the fuel got stuck. However, this doesn't seem to be a problem this time.

I am unsure if the ambient temperature is affecting the boiler? I have warmed the flue chimney on both occasions.

As an aside, when the fire was going from Wednesday to Friday the boiler got very hot (it was warm in general on those 2 days too)...but did cool down and the fire maintained with a bit of help from me by putting the fan higher at times to keep the fire going while the boiler cooled down...I normally keep it on the 2nd setting as the house benefits from good insulation and is hot. I only want it for hot water at present until winter kicks in then will up it a bit to get the heating benefit too.

My question is should I try the 3rd hole or is there something else I can do?

They are a blast from the past! It is many years since I looked at one, but 2 things stopped them running on for ever, - faulty fuel (congealed coal, or other large lumps), or heat leak rad not working. Has the builders touched the pipe work ?
Make sure the electrics are still the same. The boiler (fan) needs always supplied and the pump to rads needs through a time clock obviously, if I remember right

Lame Plumber - thanks, that was the first thing I did when encountering the problem.

Best - the fuel could be the issue...no congealed stuff or large lumps though. The heat leak is working properly and n the builders didnt touch the pipework (I know that for a fact as during hte 24 hours it stays on after lighting the fire the pipework works great).

Boiler fan does come on, but am unsure about this...the installer has (allegedly) checked it but the boiler seems to get very hot after a while then the fire goes out as it cools. At least it did on one occasion...on the others the fan was on and off, the boiler didn't get too hot but the fire went out. The pump works fine to the rads via a time clock. I did think the ambient temperature might be affecting the performance as it is warm in general at the present time...

Any other suggestions?

Hows about getting your installer back to sort things out? simple thought if grains worked ok in the past why swap to beans that dont. other issue could be air bleed blockage, the fact you need to learn how to keep it going with beans, ie cleaning system for clinker etc, takes practice to get right amongst the many things that can need setting up right

An update...the issue is the fuel. Despite requesting beans from my supplier they have provided a mix of beans and some crappy other stuff which produces more ash than clinker. Needless to say I am not using them again.

Shame really as they were convenient.
