I am a gsr and just wanted clarification as to why its not recommended to just use a 5 core cable connecting live, neutral, com and nc from combi boiler terminal box rather then feeding another cable from spur socket just for live and neutral for reciver box. Any advise

Isolation requirement from Switched Fused Connection Unit. (power in). I am guessing that if your "com and nc" refers to the volt free or low voltage switching pair that combi's tend to use it would not be a good idea to have them along side 230V power in. For one thing cables running close to one & other can induce a current to flow on each other.

Chris is correct. If however you need to switch 230VAC & not volt free or bus based then a 5 core is fine.
