Hi everyone,

been to look at a job, current set up is unvented cylinder with storage heaters. Customer has had a gas meter put in and wants a combi boiler put in. 1 bathroom and en-suite shower. She wants the unvented cylinder gone.

Job requires gas run in 28mm.

all new rads, valves etc. Not a massive property. 6 rads, 1 towel warmer. Downstairs on drops. 3 bedrooms.

Wirelesss stat.

Chemicals.

I know its a hard question to answer without seeing the job. 2 of us doing it, we don't seen any major hurdles. Looking for a ball park figure what you would all charge. We have a rough idea from getting a price for materials, have priced for budget rads and controls. I don't want to over charge but then I dont want to under charge and come unstuck.

Any pointers would be great. Thanks.

Shouldn’t this be in the gas safe only section and not the arms as we are talking about pricing a heating system (I know it isn’t about gas)

Out the 2 of us, my mate has more experience and he reckons the Vogue will handle it.

Won’t with two showers running but it may with a basin and shower with flow restrictors on the basin

Best option is elec shower on one of them

thanks for the replies, we'll have a chat tomorrow and see whats best. Unvented would probably be the best option. i'll see if the customer would be prepared to stick with unvented.

How many people live in the property?

I understand what people say when they say fit an unvented because its 2 bathrooms but if there is only say a couple living there then a combi will prob be fine just as long as they dont expect to both have a shower at the same time.

What is the flow rate like? I've been asked several times to fit a 40kw combi but the water flow rate was lower than what the combi could deliver so ended up with a 33kw.

What happens when the 2 people move out and 4/5 move in and hot water demand goes up?

What happen if they spend the next 60 years there?

I dont do work on my house thinking what will the next person want I do it for what I would like. If the next people dont like it they can change it.

I would say because you have 2 bathrooms I would advise that an unvented cylinder would suit the house better but as it's only the 2 of you living here then a combi would be fine for you as long as you realise that you will struggle to run 2 taps at the same time. If the next people dont like it because they have 6 kids then they can rip it out and fit a 400ltr unvented if that's what they choose.
