1st Gas inspection what do I need?

hi guys,

What do I require for a gas inspection? Other than my fga,manometer, corgi book, and a installation that I've completed.
Do you need more than one installation job so they can see you do the basic gas checks or can they test you on the one installation?

Last visit I had , inspector told me to do something ( cant remember what ) while I was doing it he said crack on whilst I fire up your anyliser, kill me now , it was just out of calibration lol .
Inverness , make sure your analyser is in calibration lol

To keep your cool and not get flustered, know the regs ventilation , ar & id procedures , tightness test procedure and carry one out , commision a appliance do a gas rate on it , have paperwork of the gas work you have carried out , have some gas warning labels and a warning notice pad , and temporary earth bond.

Leak detection fluid (LDF)
Make sure you don't spray it near a naked flame if it's an aerosol.
Stop watch (phone)
Warning pads just in case.
Test joints that are live when an appliance is running. I normally do that with a sniffer but if you don't have one use a bit of LDF on a small brush. I'm talking about things like pilot tube connections and joints after solenoids etc.

The individual you meet will most likely have been in your position and the ones I have met throughout my working life have all been nice folk. They are there to help and if you have any questions, they would rather help educate you than punish you.

Might also be an idea to have some stop ends, caps and plugs etc.

As above have mentioned + a smoke pen to test case seal and a volt pen is a must now, use volt pen before you touch any pipes or appliances. It seems to be their latest thing. And make sure you have the very latest unsafe procedure downloaded on your phone or tablet; available to download free from the gas safe website.

Yes great for making sure the case is back on properly, gives a visual indication of whether or not the case seal has been made or damaged etc.

Round my area the inspectors insist you have one and will expect you to use it every time you put the case back on. It was also expected to use the smoke pen and volt stick when I renewed my ASC 6 months ago.

What's the difference between that and using a smoke match inside a smoke tube?
Is it that there is less smoke but for longer?
Do you light them like a smoke match?
Can they be extinguished or do you need to let them burn down?

Sorry for the questions but I'd rather ask a chap who uses one in the field than the salesman trying to offload them.

You can extinguish them with the lid. They are a really slow burn wick and are very useful
