Good on you for being in a position where you can receive it!

So out of interest a tap washer change would cost...? £90-£110?

To be honest I have never been called out to change a tap washer or to fix a dripping tap. But thats probably cause folk will not pay my rates

What about kitchen taps, doing two over the next few days and wasn't sure what to charge. I don't feel I can charge too much as I'm not yet qualified but I can assure you I'll do a good job? How much should should I ask for. Both taps are for the same customer, one in kitchen and one in utility, both mixers

also whether they are mono or two hole and with iso valves comes into it and ease of access. i agree about 1.5 hrs sounds right.

Last few kitchen taps I've changed have been done in an hour (and no call back for leaks either!)

Incidentally, I never quote on these small jobs - you never know if something's going to bite you. I changed a shower mixer recently and was expecting a 2-3 hour job. Took me the best part of 3 half days in the end! Luckily for the customer I knew them and didn't charge anything like the amount I should have done.

If someone asks a price for small jobs I tell them to expect the job to take up to half a day which costs £125 but if something is unexpected then it will probably cost more. Usually this is accepted but if they start pushing me on the price the signal starts going on my phone quite quickly.

I must admit that in my area I'm lucky. Just about all my customers just ask me to do small jobs without asking for the price. They trust me to do a decent job for a fair price and I trust them to pay either when I've finished or shortly afterwards.

cheers for all the replies guys, I've been out to quote on replacing a basin and a toilet, and I took on board what ya said so I've quoted £150 plus materials, and they seemed happy with that, 🙂 so you lot reckon thats about the right price??
cheers

I tend to charge £50 an hour for private jobs.

Charged a guy £80 the other day to remove an old F&E from a bedroom cupboard and remove some pipes as well.

He was happy to pay that and I got 40 quid on top for the scrap as well... result!

exactly what i would quote.

what about the splashback for the basin. if its a pedestal basin it could be a different height to the old one,
they'll need a new splashback obviously
if they havent got any of the old tiles in the garage they'll need to re-tile the whole bathroom
then while your at it might as well replace the bath/shower/ and fit a towel rail.
