HALL of SHAME PHOTo`s

View the thread, titled "HALL of SHAME PHOTo`s" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

It used to be a common thing to go to a sheet metal factory to get them to fabricate parts for flue systems, I.e balanced flue extensions or when fancy fireplaces were fitted to fire back boiler units.

Remember having to make a rectangle to round adapter for a gas fire as part of our C&G
But then in those days we used to carry 2p for the phone & put small boys up the chimney to clean them!!

Take a butcher's at this mess. Something somewhere was leaking.

"My dad did the plumbing." The young lady said. "He's quite proud of it!"

I had to go sit in the van till I stopped giggling.

Oh boy 😀 😀 well, did you fix it? 😀

I found the leak yeah. He had plastic running right to the boiler. Stripped it back a metre and put copper in. Sent these pics to me Guv'nor asking if he wanted me to strip that birds nest back and redo it. He just said na, no time. Far as I know it's still like it.

I was averaging out Tom, next time I'm in Edinburgh though I'll give you a shout and you can prove to me how cheap a pint of heavy is.

About 80 quids worth there mate! Can get compression up to 67mm but that's a complicated beast!

Is the main problem in the photo not the fact that it looks like the safety valve has no discharge pipe leading from it?

I have seen a few commercial boiler rooms like this, tank fed cold water supplies.

Dont know the regs myself but does it have to vent to outside if not unvented ??

Asking the question not saying it is right :45:

It should be piped to a suitable drainage point where it's visually obvious that the valve is open or be fitted with a tundish. Most commercial boilerhouses just have these piped to low level to discharge on the floor.

That valve is, or should be, a combined temperature and pressure safety valve.
