More than a month to deliver a cylinder!?

Ordered a 250 litre indirect unvented cylinder from Screwfix on 11th March.
They gave me a 25th March delivery date, which seemed a bit long at two weeks, but I accepted it.

When the cylinder arrived it was the wrong size so I sent it back.

A new delivery date was arranged for the 3rd April.


That was cancelled by the courier and a new date of 17th April suggested. At this I threatened to cancel the order and demanded an earlier delivery. They then suggested 10th April, but would phone on the day to confirm.

The Screwfix lady responsible for direct orders seems powerless to influence the couriers.
Nearly a month gone by and no cylinder yet .... is this normal :banghead:

Cancel the order. Most reputable merchants should be able to get one next day, unless it is some weird and wonderful spec.

Jokin aint ya screwfix never deals in anything with special spec ! Cancel it waiting that time is just criminal ! Thats a month the money will be out of your bank without a product ! Contact another merchant ! A real merchant !

It's a bog standard RM Stelflow cylinder. Screwfix are normally really quick so I feel a bit of loyalty towards them. But that will vanish if the cylinder does'nt arrive on the 10th. 🙁

As above I would of gone to a local independent for one , but on a side note are you planning to fit it yourself?

Yes I am planning to fit it, and have the technical competence. The last unvented cylinder I fitted in 1985 is still going strong. (I am an aero engineer licenced for jet & piston engines) ... but will get a proper plumber with unvented certificate to check it out. Safety critical work like an unvented cylinder sure as hell needs to be done right

No you don't have the technical competence! Otherwise you would be G3 qualified.

There having a laugh 1 month to deliver.

As someone who's qualified to fit one I would recomend that you employ someone with the relevant qualifications to do so.

Personally can't stand it when people claim to be/do something so can obviously undertake any sort of work with ease.

Let the job be undertaken by someone within the relevant field not because they have this and that qualification.

How about if you get it wrong you'll have installed a potential bomb in your house with the capability of demolishing half of it!

We spend a small fortune on training and registration to prove ourselves competent in our field. We're very good at it. Please don't insult us by telling us you have the technical competence just because you work on plane engines because you don't.

Get a g3 in. Then he can sign it off.

I'm a qualified plumber, gas safe registered and have my g3 unvented certification.

I don't touch unvented cylinders at all because I don't know enough about it and I don't fully understand it. I have been on the certified trainng course, been out with engineers working/installing these, and I just can't get my head around them.

Basically, what I'm saying is I'm ALLOWED to repair/install these, but I don't as I'd do more harm than good.

If you touch this and install this cylinder, you'll be putting yourself and your family in danger.

Plus you won't get an installer to sign it off, therefore building control won't pass it, the warranty will be void and you'll have a potentially dangerous situation in your property.

OMG! ask for advice and get a ton of stuff Come on people! unvented systems have been around in USA & Europe for years. I first came across unvented systems in Germany in 1964, it's not rocket science.
When I fitted a Heatrae Sadia unvented cylinder myself in 1980, I could'nt find a UK plumber who knew about them. For sure a wrongly installed cylinder could be dangerous, but what kind of idiot would carry out work that was beyond his competance? Safety critical work demands understanding and ability.
