The pump is external, it is a Grundfos Selectric 15-60 and is set at 2. It is only about 12mnths old and when it runs it seems to circulate ok. As I said before it did not happen before, it only seems to happen at the 1st boiler switch on in the morning when the HW timer clicks on before the CH programmer clicks on, so the pump is only circulating thro the Cylinder. Could it be a problem with the Bypass valve?
Hope this helps. Thanks for your input.

Leo,

Come on its inside the boiler case, GSR

should have an auto bypass on the system if its installed iaw building regs, another thought is whether the system was flushed through properly during the boiler swap, any crud in it and a new pump will stir it all up and ruin the pump in short shrift!

Vaillant four series boilers are open vent/ external pump and bypass! No case removal required. No instructions needed on how to suck eggs either.:77:

Haha
We can't really help anyway he needs to get his GSR guy back could be a number off things

Once again thanks to all you guys who are trying to help me solve this problem.
One thing I cannot get my head round is the initial start condition 1st thing in the morning.
Both the F&R pipes will be cold and at the same temp. But when the pump starts and the boiler fires, the flow pipes temp. will rise quickly, but the return pipe will be cold for a period so what stops F72 from activating.

With all due respect I would say you need2 knowless. A little knowledge is dangerous and before you know it you've got your head in the boiler thinking you've sussed it.

It could be a number of things, heat input, circulation, boiler fault but without the right gear your not going to be able to test the basics. You've got a big house and an expensive boiler, treat it like a posh car and get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it for piece of mind and to save yourself un-necessary expense. Find some one reputable who knows what they are doing.
