I swear by a plain van with no signwriting as that it's just an advert to thieves. So is a pipe rack on the roof. You need no windows in the back and a solid bulkhead. And no sign saying 'no tools overnight' cos that means 'tools during the day' or tools probably in overnight cos who can be bothered to remove them'

If your van looks like an empty parcel delivery van you will attract less scum than a van that says 'I'm owned by a plumber and full of expensive tools and copper'

Also do a scrap run every night. If it's not at home it can't get nicked. For the same reason I never hold boilers or get them delivered. I collect from the merchant and it's bolted to a customers wall asap. Very unlikely to get stolen while it's my responsibility.

My Dad says the same, but for me its a double edges sword, already got so much work from the van, its like a big advert. I am really lazy with scrap so that is something I could easily rectify.

Lovely area that Croppie

It used to be. Was always rough but there was the community spirit, we looked after our own.

Ah yes, well I have heard that a fair bit of the crime we get here comes from over the Croydon border! Actually I have a few friends who still live up there and they are what I call decent people, but from what I gather it is getting rougher. Up at Fieldway a bit for the merchant there. Warlingham is supposed to be a 'nice' area, well apart from bodies floating about in wells.....

I used to drink in the Randall Tavern when it was called the Bunkers Knob. My dad used Plumbwell a lot before he retired.

Dont know what it is called now, in fact not even sure it was still open when I last went there. Still use Plumbwell a fair bit, they have a few branches now, a big one on the Purley way with a bathroom showroom. Often think they could have re thought the name though, they are B & P plumbing. Customers often ask me to repeat that slowly......
