Does this flue conform to regs?

I had a new boiler, Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life 35kW, fitted in Oct 2021. In 2023 I had a service, but the engineer was getting bad co readings, and declared the boiler unsafe, telling me to contact Worcester Bosch under warranty. That engineer arrived, and said the service engineer did not properly understand the adjustments, and that it was now working perfectly. However he did point out that the flue was incorrectly sited about 230mm under the eave, which had a ventilation grille. He suggested the proper thing would be to get a flu extension fitted, but that I could just cover up the grille, which I did. He also repositioned my CO detector, which I had on a worktop, up nearer the ceiling.

Since then the CO detectors (I have two) have gone off several times, sometimes in the middle of the night! The reading is always very low (50-80ppm), and I am sure that the cause is CO entering through the loose fitting door. I adjusted the latch, and added a draught strip, and since then have had no alarms.

However, with the warm weather, we sometimes leave the door open, and if the boiler is heating water, the fumes can be blown in to trigger the alarms. They are very loud, and upset both us and the neighbours!

Is this installation compliant with the regs in October 2021? If not, do I have a case to go back to the installer (a big national) and ask that they remedy this?

I would not dismiss a reading of 50-80ppm a 'very low'.

Exposure to 50ppm for more than 30 mins breaks WHO recommended safe limits and you'll start getting dizziness and headaches after just a few hours.

A reading of 0.1ppm is 'very low' and the average indoor level in (US) homes is in the range 0.5–5ppm

Getting that level of co in the house / alarms being triggered is very serious really. I wouldn't be using it until it is sorted if it is continuing to get co in the house

Has that flue exhaust always pointed downward?

Personally I would have brought the flue further out and used a plume kit to take it upward. I have not seen what is above the facia?
