Intermitent, piezo lights pilot perfectly and flame is over the tip of the thermocouple but often just goes out when button is released.
Coal effect focal point fire.
Other times it fires fine.
There is a lever to a setting of coal or coke depending on what flame picture you prefer, would this make a difference? Noticed when set to coke it lit ok but on coal it wouldn't light to main burner. Or it could have been coincidense.
If thermocouple was on way out durely it would not light at all.
Chimney was sooted up as well, is this normal over 12 months with a dfe fire.
Flue sound and spillage fine.

That's the one, inset. It has the cables pulled through the box holding it in place. Focal point supa 400.
Coals are to mi's although from a black and white picture to follow its not easy to see.

not up on focal points there generally cheap tat sold by the likes of b and q,has it got a microswitch as a off position ? 2 wires off it?

Don't think so.Standard oxypilot/thermocouple. Lever to adjust flame picture coke-coal.

Stratplus, it's a long shot this one but this sounds similar to one I did a few years ago, the customers were sick of it. It was something as simple as holding the lever down for a good few seconds after it lit . It may help. Check mi's if you have them .

Is the pilot assembly clean? Check the breather hole to see if there is any muck in it as a bit of lint could be getting sucked in to it then causing the flame to lift from time to time.
