One can rout a cable diagonally in a wall – protection required though, unless the depth is greater than 50mm.

Thought it was only horizontal and vertical in the 'cable zones'.
I believe, routing the cables horizontally or vertically is called good practise. Running them "wild" is a last resort if you cannot avoid it.
