The fiat does have the transit engine. I know an ex fiat commercial mechanic who advised me they were quite reliable mechanically. Usual flimsy built on the outside though and may not be that comfortable to drive. Probably get you the best value for money van for your budget. For £6k you'd struggle to get a decent VW, transits rust as said.

My traffic is OK on a 64 plate @ 12k miles. A few niggles with the Bluetooth and radio and I'm not overly fond of the gear ratios on the 120 twin turbo model, a few flat spots when giving it some beans to join a motorway etc.

are you sure the fiat is a ford engine im not up on recent models but fiat used to use the iveco engine where citroen and peugeot used the transit engine

same 2.2 engine used in the transit and current production landrover defender puma lump

needs must sadly,its now on 163k and getting a right kicking weekly,not fair to ask it to keep going as the latest breakdown shows

Had a fiat 04 plate 2.0 ducatto old shape the engine was a peugeot diesel that was bullet proof but the rest fell to bits at 145000 miles
Bought a jumbo transit at auction yellow 60 plate ex city link on 92000 miles with fsh for £4100 inc fees very happy with it.

The peugeot expert/citeoen dispatch/fiat ducato are reliable vans and suprisingly spacious. All of the medium sized vans seem to be about as unreliable as each other. You wont get alot of transporter for that money but they do hold there value very well.

If its high mileage (over 25k per year) then it has to be a Merc Sprinter. We have 05 plate Sprinters with 300k on them, still running, and the 08 plates with 200+ are still sought after by the drivers.We run over 40 vans, and wouldnt consider anything else for high mileage.

For lower mileage vehicles, we use Citroen Relays, but any of that family would be similar.

Its a load of borrocks Phill. As far as I can tell, the only reason that Sprinters have a reputation for rusting, is that they are the only vans that keep going mechanically long enough to rust.
