the landy has done that land rover thing again, saying that we think either the front diff has died or the recently fitted, still under warranty clutch has gone anyway, biggest reason for selling is i now do way more miles than when i got it and need more space, going to look for a new van with low miles sometime next year, have had a rough value on the defender of about 4500-4800,will i get this trade in or just sell it privately?also what van to get, have a short list, must be transit sized but not getting a ford, they rust to badly

Fiat Ducato 2.3 jtd swb
trannsit engine, dont rust, window firm i work for has 20 of them, they seem very reliable

vw transporter? mixed reviews on those

vw crafter?

have a budget with selling the landy of about 5-6 k,what else is out there thats good?

vauxhall vivaro or renault trafic but get the long wheel based version trust me

im looking to get a new van next year and it'll have to be a vivaro or trafic LWB ive ran out of space in the SWB and it's got 166,000 miles on it

Transit is still the king of the road in my opinion. Although I drove a transporter for 3 years and it was a very comfortable ride and decent size in the back.

Wouldn`t buy the Fiat, don`t know price`s in Wales but the Vito after 08 (I think it was) had the rust problem sorted, thing is now your looking your going to see good & bad examples in all vans as you drive around.

My vivaro has been quite kind to me. Only two front wheel bearings and a maf sensor so far.

prices pretty much the same everywhere looking at ebay prices, why not the fiat? cant find much to go wrong other than gearbox issues but saying mainly jumbo versions affected

Just goes to show there is good and there is bad.
Brand new Vivaro, less than 4k miles has spent more time in the garage then my mates had it!
Can`t recall all the faults..... Power steering failure (V.low speed thankfully), whine from gearbox, windscreen leaks, inbuilt Bluetooth to phone has a mind of it`s own and something about the central locking driving him nuts.

Just have memories of a Doblo that puts me off all things Fiat I`m fraid.

are you sure the fiat is a ford engine im not up on recent models but fiat used to use the iveco engine where citroen and peugeot used the transit engine

Both of our Crafters are 6 years old now and still running beautifully with no major work needed on either. They are both low mileage vans though, 43k and 50k respectively. About to get another VW van as very impressed with them.

Hope i don't sound as miserable as him

Oy! I'm not miserable. I'm just not a happy shiny person.

C,mom fellas, the fiats, Renaults, vauxhalls ( results with different badges on) keep the AA in business.
Best value for money out there is a Hyundai I load. Can't believe your selling the hallowed Landy.

The fiat does have the transit engine. I know an ex fiat commercial mechanic who advised me they were quite reliable mechanically. Usual flimsy built on the outside though and may not be that comfortable to drive. Probably get you the best value for money van for your budget. For £6k you'd struggle to get a decent VW, transits rust as said.

My traffic is OK on a 64 plate @ 12k miles. A few niggles with the Bluetooth and radio and I'm not overly fond of the gear ratios on the 120 twin turbo model, a few flat spots when giving it some beans to join a motorway etc.

same 2.2 engine used in the transit and current production landrover defender puma lump

needs must sadly, its now on 163k and getting a right kicking weekly, not fair to ask it to keep going as the latest breakdown shows

Had a fiat 04 plate 2.0 ducatto old shape the engine was a peugeot diesel that was bullet proof but the rest fell to bits at 145000 miles
Bought a jumbo transit at auction yellow 60 plate ex city link on 92000 miles with fsh for £4100 inc fees very happy with it.

Not worth leasing a branny tranny ?
No servicing or breakdown woes to worry about !!

The peugeot expert/citeoen dispatch/fiat ducato are reliable vans and suprisingly spacious. All of the medium sized vans seem to be about as unreliable as each other. You wont get alot of transporter for that money but they do hold there value very well.

If its high mileage (over 25k per year) then it has to be a Merc Sprinter. We have 05 plate Sprinters with 300k on them, still running, and the 08 plates with 200+ are still sought after by the drivers. We run over 40 vans, and wouldnt consider anything else for high mileage.

For lower mileage vehicles, we use Citroen Relays, but any of that family would be similar.
