Hi All,
I am not a plumber, but a fairly competant DIYer. I am having a problem with an old gravity fed hot watre system and am tearing my hair out trying to figure out what could be causing the problem.
So, what appears to be happening is the Larger tank in the loft fills until it lifts the...
Hello all,
I currently have a gravity hot water system - with a 110x60x60cm water tank and a small one (expansion vessel?) in the loft, the water pressure in the bathrooms (3 on first floor) are very poor, especially the master bedroom en-suite (the furthest way from the cold water tank) which...
I have came across a strange one I can't solve.
Have been to a job probably 5 times over many months. This plumbing is original several decades old, without precious bother. The elderly couples toilet and cold bath tap stop flowing from gravity tank fed. First time I went I just quickly cleared...
Hi I could do with a bit of guidance to empty my system to clean and inhibit it I think I'm on the right track with the below method but would like someone who does this as a profession to double check, I have had to put up with some knocking pipes this winter (1st time since moving in 14...
Hi guys, doing some renovation work in my downstairs bathroom and need some advice.
Since being in this house there has always been a radiator half way up the downstairs bathroom wall. I've found out by taking back some false wall that this radiator is joined to the gravity hot water circuit...
I'll need to get a new boiler soon to replace my 20yr old 4 pipe boiler with separate gravity HW and pumped CH open vented system but I foresee a problem with the overflow and vent being on the end of the HW circuit. Boiler is in the garage and has 28mm pipes going up to the airing cupboard on...
As part of an upcoming bathroom job my customer has bought a Stuart Turner monsoon 2.0 bar single pump to boost the gravity hot for the taps.I've fitted loads of shower pumps but never one for taps, I've downloaded the instructions and on one of the diagrams it more or less shows the pump fitted...
Hi all been at an ongoing job standard gravity system heating is fine cylinder flow piping hot cylinder return no to little heat tried venting and it works after a hassle of cracking nuts and vents then after about 3 days it blocks again how often do the coils become sludged up is it quite...
Hello all,
I have a problem with the gravity circuit on a system with 16kw multi fuel burner with a back boiler. The existing plumbing is about 15 years old, roughly. House was vacant before buying and had an old inset stove that was falling apart, assume it worked fine as it was a housing...
Got an old myson heat only boiler to swap soon and convert to fully pumped.
Company I used to work for always used to swap the cylinder on fully pumped conversions. Is there a reason behind this or just something they did?
I would prefer to not swap the cylinder aswell if there is no reason...
Hi guys
First post so bear with me please. I'm seeking advice regarding the central heating in a home I have just bought, it's a first home and this is my first experience of heating systems. The house is in a rural area and uses a Worcester oil fired boiler, so far from what I can see with...
I'm hoping to have a back boiler woodburner installed, which can work to heat cylinder by gravity even when no power (still happens!). Looking at other threads, I fear that pumps MUST now be installed, so is this not now allowed?
Do most people tend to trust the gate valve on the cold feed to a hot water cylinder will turn off and back on again, when wanting to work on the hot pipework, swapping a bath tap no isos. Or turn the cold mains off and drain all tank.
Need to remove airlock from gravity fed cold and hot water fed pumped power shower. Is it ok to connect a hose to a mains tap and attach to mixer hose outlet and force mains water up through the cold side into c/w storage tank & repeat by switching mixer to hot? Is it fine to send mains water...
Hello All,
I have an issue with a customers system. Gravity HW, pumped CH (pump on return). Combined feed and vent. Boiler is a Potterton Kingfisher MF, only HW control is a TRV linked to a sensor on the cylinder (tapstat?). The cylinder also has a solar coil fed by collectors on the roof...
Hello,
I am creating a gravity fed heat sink for my new stove back boiler. I live on a narrowboat so many of the standard house practises such as installing a F&E tank in the loft cant apply. So please bear with me!
So the only reason for the post is to understand if the heat sink idea...
Got a customer who has called me in after an absolute nightmare with a cowboy builder and an ex-friend project managing her renovation.
I feel really sorry for her, she was actually crying when explaining what had gone on when I first went round.
Anyway, she has a basin mixer that she really...
Got a customer with a pretty odd noise complaint. Basically its a gravity system, a loud banging noise and rattling occurs even when no taps have been run or loo used - middle of the night. It actually makes the hot water tap run in the kitchen. When she told me I said she needed ghostbusters...
