Done a fair bit of reading and spoke to numerous plumbers/heating engineers and I get so many different answers to my question. By nature I'm a pretty inquisitive bloke and like to know how things work and if its the best way to do things. So my first question is does a single zone UFH setup...
This thing is a bit if a mystery olto me .
The boiler and the oven dials have 'Idle' marked on them, does anyone know what temp that sits at?
I've discovered the boiler won't fire unless the oven is on at minimum temperature, which seems daft.
There is also a Pull To Open dial/rod . I've no...
Hi again
I'm on a roll with the plumbing questions today! So here's query #2...
We've not used our hot water for quite some time, and it now doesn't work. From what I can gather based on what I've learnt in the last hour or two, I think the problem is with the 3 port motorised valve. When...
Hi,
Found some great answers here but first time posting, go easy on me please 😋.
Looking to fit a salamander rp50tu shower pump to a gravity system. It's a 'universal' (negative head compatible) pump which will be going in the loft (2 story house) just below the bottom level of the cold water...
I am going to quote to replace this boiler mate with an unvented cylinder but have never seen one before
what do the three pumps do?
Boiler pump, heating system pump and?
It looks like the heating system is pressurised so is it just the thermal store that’s open vent?
is it copper inside? 🤓
Hi,
First of all, apologies, I have a really annoying need to understand things in minute detail. Today my Hot Water Cylinder seemingly ran out of adequately heated water after two short showers. The cylinder was heated between 8:30am-9:30am to a temp of 60 degrees. The only use was two short...
Do you use them? And if so how long would you leave one on a system that had air in it before returning to screw down/isolate (after hoping the air would have escaped in meantime)?
Get the impression some of them leak if left but don't know how common this is. Perhaps some of you leave them...
Hi all,
I've got a British Gas 330+ Heat only boiler and it displayed an F25 error (lack of water iirc) on Sunday. I read the manual and bled the radiators (1 rad had quite a bit of air) and topped the system up a little and sure enough I could then hear water flowing back into the boiler. I...
Bought a 1960's Bungalow back in 2002 ...which came equipped (fitted by BG back in 1995) as follows :
One pipe system (3/4" & 22mm) comprising of :
Ideal 60N e type free standing gas boiler in Garage
10 radiators , all fitted with Danfoss TRVs
SMC 24 hour Timer/ clock /controller
SMC Commodore...
So I've got a gas pipe in my kitchen, but due to a miscommunication on my part it's got the wrong fitting for the cooker I intend to buy. It's got a nut on the end, and is facing upwards, whereas I need a bayonet, and if I understand correctly, those should always face downwards so the rubber...
I am currently studying to pas as a gas engineer and I have come stuck on some of The modules and can’t seem to find the answers anywhere.
Q1. A gas meter can be installed without a mounting bracket or support shelf, only when
A1. The supporting pipework either side Is constructed of rigid...
Hi all
So I have done some plumbing in my house with push-fit pipes. And now I am looking into replacing the lead pipe from my main water supply.
In the picture you can see I have a plastic mains pipe, that runs into a 15mm pipe with stopcock. Then this is coupled to an old lead pipe.
This...
Hi all, relatively new to the gas industry about a year and normally just do fires and boilers.
The only reason i have the cookers ticket is for lgsc's. I am fitting my first freestanding cooker tomorrow and i have a few questions which may sound dumb.
1. Is changing all the injectors...
I'm currently working on a research assignment to do with Digital marketing, specifically social media and how plumbing businesses use it. Would any of you be kind enough to aid my research and answer a couple questions below?
What would you say from your experience your target market/customer...
Hope someone can advise me.My new pump is situated pumping downwards as per picture. On initial startup there is a lot of turbulence/air noise and about a .2bar pressure drop.Would I be better having it fitted to flow on opposite wall, pumping up? or is the pump too powerful--ups2 25-80.
Also...
I'd be so grateful!
1) If the water in the rads and pipes is so hot that I can't touch the rads, is it possible that I can hear it rushing and coursing through the rads and pipes? I've been told the noise is air in the system, but I'm wondering if it's boiling hot water instead.
2) When...

Firstly thank you for taking time to read this for me. Last week we were lucky enough to have our second daughter born. During getting some bits out of the roof I looked at the cold water tank as it was running. I’m a complete novice at plumbing but can fix a few things. To be honest I didn’t...
So the plan is this. Currently I have all rooms individually controllable through programmable TRVs allowing me to heat only the rooms that are being used on different profiles during the day and night. So far so good.
But I have three main problems with my boiler.
1. there is no boiler...
First question: What is the "ball thing" on the fourth copper pipe along.
Also: I have identified the flow to my radiators as being the left-most pipe that is 22mm and the return as the right-most 22mm copper pipe (fifth one along), then the heating for my taps as the 15mm next to my radiator...
