just after a lot of advice really basically Iwas called to service a boiler booked it in for today on arrival found a leak coming from the top of the boiler within the combustion chamber but couldn't find where it originated from due to time constraints my head is telling me it can only be the expansion vessel ?? if so would you recommend adding one to the return pipework and capping the existing if so what do you use to cap it and where I am very green when It comes to repairs as I am 95% of the time on installs or wet plumbing
thanks for any advice cheers Jacob

it was yes a 28i junior from memory my pads in the lockup with full details sorry

Pretty sure the expansion vessel is on the back, a leak from the shrader valve or connection would drip from the bottom of the boiler.

it is a condenser with a beancan for a heat exchanger right?

I'll grab the mis 🙂

out of the combustion chamber at the back of the boiler behind the pump so the leak comes down and out at the back I just didn't have chance to do a full strip down to find it unfortunately thanks killy!

If that's the greenstar then I'm sure the expansion vessels need the boiler off the frame which they've changed slightly on newer model as simple to remove so you'd maybe be just as well replacing the vessel if it isn't fixible, the newer models simply pull the pin n bobs your uncle n fannnys your aunt lol

Sorry, if it's the expansion vessel it wouldn't be coming out of the combustion chamber mate ? So it must be something else, bleed screw above pump passing maybe ?

its the base of combustion chaimbe on the right so the pump is under and slightly forward of where the leak is coming from if that makes sence

Infact im sure there's a manual bleed off at the top of the main heat exchanger , possibly passing ? But that's at the front of the boiler , it may be a hex connection as that's the only places it couldn't come from,

Hi woody, yeh that expansion vessels are out of the combustion chamber, only water is the flow n return pipes to main hex, and at the front there's a plastic manual bleed which might be passing , as there's a bit of white or clear hose attached to it that the last person using it might've pushed it inward and if it passed it may end up at the back,

cheers for your help bud I am going to call back tomorrow and strip down to find the problem to be honest I was dreading it been the expansion to be fair!! cheers again

If its in the base above, did you clear the sump or just the trap?

if there is no pressure loss from the system then the sump could be cracked.

sorry its taken a while to get back to you guys, basically the bloke rang me up and said lets swap It so I ended up swapping it out today for a idea vogue
thank you all for your suggestion and advise
