Lead finial 002.jpgLead finial 001.jpg I have been making this lead finial today and have also found out from the Lead Sheet Association that I am now not able to work on Heritage buildings (per 1912) without paying £2500 for an assessment.

I am a Plumber (worker of lead), should I have to pay this huge amount of money to prove I can do my trade? I do not do leadwork all the time, it is just part of my trade!

See here Heritage Leadwork NVQ Level 3 | The Lead Sheet Association Qualification available from the LSA for lead sheet metal roofing worker. involved with heritage projects and listed buildings | The Lead Sheet Association

what give them the right to decide that experienced trademen are no longer allowed to perform leadwork on these properties? they will require us to prove competence in pushing waste fittings together sooner or later.

Nice bit of work, last time I did lead work was around 30 odd years ago and have never touched it since.... I can't see that work of art remaining in the garden too long before it someone spots it and say's "cor look at that scrap"

Nice work. Was you stud beside the plant pot when you found out? :smile5:

Whats the fine like if you work without having this license? If their anything like GasSafe then it won't be much and I would just do and take my chances.

Just do what you have to do to complete the job then if anyone queries your competence ask them to have go at doing the same!
ps nice work eco

quality work Eco, and remember a picture is worth 2500 words

The Grandfather rights ran out in May !!!!!

I think the problem would be if a site inspected my CSCS card it is for advanced plumber not heritage leadwork

Is there no cheaper way of passing the test? £2.5k is a lot of cash - can you right it off against tax at all?

another example of ridiculous red tape that stops anything getting done i cant fit unvented anymore as im obviously dead well the cert i had said for life but now needs renewing
anything the goverment buys is overpriced due to the rules and regs it imposeses on suppliers and the corrupt way the supply chain is rigged against small traders

Hi. I makes me wonder how the Romans managed without NVQ's. Some may still remember days when there were plumbers, charge hand plumbers and forman plumbers. Resulting in general with CPD of individuals. (Continuous professional development) Alas we are now asked to financially support administration schemes run by non practical people. The type of lead work mentioned is normally over seen by others, including clerk of the works, assuring the work conforms to standards set.
Having experience of training for some large organisations, it becomes clear that revenue often outweighs the knowledge and skill needed to gain certification.
Has any body taken part in a course where people have failed?

I agree Peter, nobody ever fails its just a money making scam.

We were trained as plumbers and heating engineers but the qualifications seem to be worthless as the years go on.
