Matchless.plumb;846116 When I go to customers I always ask them kindly to take their phones said:
I would never do this, nor have I ever heard anything like it lol!

If a tradesmen asked me to gather up all my valuables in the house I would be most suspicious from the start?? Should I ask the customer to mover his Beamer of the drive so I don't get accused of swinging my tool box into it?

Sounds horrible situation to be in mate I hope it all works out. Be very interested to know what the police say about this

Have seen cash left in some places in my time. It wasn't there the day before. Then on the day you are working in a certain place, there's a pile of coins in full Veiw.
Whenever I suspect the Customer is doing this on purpose. I chuck in a few coppers

Should love to be a fly in the wall when they count up and have the awkward conversation. " was there £7.35 or £7.39???.

Back to op. You know the truth. So stand your ground.
Add a pound to your invoice for every penny you leave on the pile,

I personally wouldnt bother calling the police.
Make contemporaneous notes now of what has happened detailing the job and sequence of missed calls.
Leave it at that.
The rest if for him to do and prove.
Ultimately it is his word against yours.

Just reading other comments meanwhile.
When I first arrive at a job i look for valuables and handbags etc.
Then I go no further and do not handle them. I get the owner or staff member to remove them from my work area immediately without delay when they show me to the job

What really?

If you work for any length of time your asking for trouble.
Just my way of doing things.

To be clear I only mean if they are obviously laying around in the immediate work area.

I Tell all customers that i wont be responsible for moving furniture or anything at all thats in my way, If it gets damaged broken or lost its not my fault, that doesnt mean i wont move things, it just means if they dont move them dont want to or cant im not liable

spot on for ringing the police. Me and the boss's lad got accused of pinching a phone and wallet once. Not a nice experience.

I got accused in the builders merchant once for stealing a trailer load of smart ply.....The butch lesbian being the counter said.."oi I want a word with you..We've got you on camera stealing a load of OSB onto a trailer' I was so embarrassed as the shop was full...I certainly wasn't me I don't even have a trailer.
I've never been back since...The cheek if it. ..It was a mistake of identity but they handled it badly.

Lady once got vexed thinking some of her knickers had gone missing. Rang back two weeks later to say she'd found them, where they'd slipped down behind tumble dryer. Didn't fit me anyway.

I have had this before now
I don't want to be graphic but he would have needed new teeth
I have some good foreign friends who give me a lot of work but there is a limit

So went to police today and basically there's nothing they can do. I could only pursue a harassment case as I've told him not to call me again. He's also not reported it because he checked for me whilst o was at station though he did say it might not check all records. So my plan is this..let it rest for a few days. Then I'm going to contact the restaurant itself and try and speak to someone else regarding this. Fail that, then I'll speak to him again face to face. I know sum might think it's not the best idea but this guys local to me..I sometimes walk past there and don't want some idiot calling me a theif. So I think I have to make it crystal clear to the guy that if he wants to call me a theif then there's gonna be consequences. Don't usually get this annoyed about things but when your a hardworking, fair and decent person doing your job and this happening? There is just something about being called a theif that's worse than any insult, name calling etc etc I can't let it rest and need to teach this guy a lesson if he thinks he can just do that to people for reasons which I'm yet to understand.

Tell you what, if he continues I'd let a load of mice loose in his restaurant and call the health police and get his restaurant shut down. I despise people like this. If anyone is a thief its him trying to get money from a hard working tradesman..

Only happened once to me, diamond ring went missing whilst I wasnt directly accused too many questions were asked had to keep on repeating Ive never seen it to begin with. Unless Im a plumber who by chance carries jewellers toolkit and am an expert at diamonds I wouldnt make much from stealing fake diamonds which is what most of these "real diamond" rings are..

Sparky friend was once accused of taking a gold chain which turned up 2-3 weeks later, very embarrassed customer rang him to apologise which he accepted as "That`s life".

Off the subject but was at a house the other day. Bloke answered the door. He took me upstairs to the boiler. Opened bedroom door and theres the daughter been humped off the boyfriend lol.
Quality.
