Here's the best tip of all, read the name of the forum you are posting in.. Maybe you should try the Gas Safe Register forum?...

If you are in the 4th year of gas apprenticeship you shouldnt have any problems. The assessors are looking for a safe, methodical, knowledgable approach, but I have found they are usually lenient and may give assistance as long as they think you are worthy.
If you think about it, there may be old appliances in the training centre that require certain treatment to get them working properly. I had a pilot light that I just could not get to stay lit and was flapping for ages, until the assessor pointed out I wasnt holding the button in for long enough! Watch out for the old blanket stuck in a chimney. And plastic fittings.

Same goes with the written exam. We had multiple choice and everyone in the room got at few wrong first time around. The assessor will bring wrong answers to your attention and send you away to re do them. Its easier when there are 3 answers rather than 4 to choose from.

The assessor told us he had only had one chap who they failed. He took it more than once, but was just hopeless.

In the real world you will expect to find one fault on one appliance.
In the practical assessment expect to find multiple unlikely faults on each appliance. For example, there were thirteen faults on the cooker installation alone, three on the boiler and two on the water heater.
Pay attention to whether the faults are NCS, AR or ID. other than that it's a piece of cake.

Expect the unexpected and observe everything closely.

ps. Check the MI's on how to do a spillage test and CO/CO2 ratios, one guy on my last assessment came unstuck on those.

bet we all remember how much of a pain that acs is just stick to the obvious like you would in the real world and if something looks wrong it probley is 4 years in mate you are going to know all you need to to pass your acs but you never stop learning because when you work with gas you cant make even one mistake because the consequences are just to awful to think about so go slow be methodical and check manufacturers instructions at least twice and concentrate on being safe thats all they want to know ive been at it 18 years and still come across head scratchers now and then good luck

Thanks for the advice everyone , i know what your saying i think the assessor is looking to iron out the overnight gasmen , i think ive got a good shot at it , just need to brush on the legislation , and if anyone has any mock papers can you please send me some
