I have just about had enough now. I've had a run of about 18 months of solid work it's been great can't fault it but the past 2-3 months have been tough I'm still working and plenty going on but I'm forever chasing payments and dealing with complete and utter knobs. Ungrateful holes who can't appreciate a job well done or the effort applied to make sure they received the best possible service. Don't get me wrong I can accept I'm employed by homeowners to carry out a job to the best of my ability and why should they make a fuss over a job well done after all payment is my reward...

but here we are end of the month again I should be sitting on thousands ready to pay all the accounts cover the mortgage childcare and the rest of it and I can just about cover the mortgage I've had enough it's beyond a joke! Short of planting my van through peoples living rooms and duct taping them to a chair doused in petrol I don't see how much more emphasis on payment due now I can make!

Any how. To get to the point I've been potentially offered a job up town (man who does the hiring and firing is on holiday this week) contracting on housing association combi swaps whatever coming out and logics going in. I'll be honest the money is phenomenal if you put the hours in and work smart. There's no risk no payment chasing no material costs just turn up do your thing and go home. The more I think it over the eager I am to do it. I know I'll be wiping my feet on the way out I know it's flats I know it's crap parking but I think I need this just to give my noggin a rest and spend some time with the family get a chance to appreciate what's at home a little more.

incase it falls through and I don't get on is anyone here working in London on combi for combi contracts and that might have an in for me?

Rather then changing completely can you do the contract work 2 or 3 days a week and run your business the rest and see how you get on?

That is the intention but ultimately I'm currently more interested in the money then the love of what I'm doing I love running my own jobs sourcing the work getting the recommendations but the potential to earn is currently more appealing

Was thinking the same . Two lads in a disabled blokes house And he was picking faults all over. Combi swap and 8 rads, new gas line .


First one, pulls lads cos rad brackets arnt symmetrical ! Lads tried to explain but wasn't listening. So fitted one as he requested and then complained rad wasn't parallel with wall.

Gas pipe undulated - no pipe is perfect your ceiling is like a yoyo!


Not enough clips? Every pipe we fit is clipped at 600mm - length of level as this is a convenient spacer!

I would be tempted if I was offered it, go where the money/work is and fill your boots.

theres so much crap involved with being self employed that when work is a bit quiet I think what's the bloody point.

I'm stressed when I ain't got much work and stressed when Ive got too much work.

Rob can you not look into one of those machines so you can take payment straight away ??? I lost six thousand on 1 job a few months ago because the firm id been subbyin to on and off for a year ( when they needed me) went into liquidation and id layed out materials for whole system, its a cryin shame chasin money,
My mate runs his own car garage and he admits that if he didnt have the card machine his doors wouldve had to close a long time ago, so we should be doing the same, i know nobody likes to pay for this service but at least its defo paid with no worries,

If it is a relatively long term contract then go for it. I would still try and keep it to 2-3 days a week and fit my own stuff in but atleast you know you have that guaranteed money coming in the bank.
