I'm asking basically out of pure interest as things are good here in Guernsey and I have no intention of leaving. I am however interested as to what employers think of these qualifications and whether they are valid in the UK? The course I took is about to expire and all of our apprentices are now on the City & Guilds 6035 which takes them up to the Level 3 NVQ whereas in the past we have taken IVQ's to L3 as I myself did.

Ay thoughts folks? Would a UK employer take one look at these and shake their head? Below are links to photos of my certificates.

Aren't you part of the empire but not the UK?

Yes, as a crown dependency. Our link is to the queen in her position as "Duke of Normandy" (funny how a she can be a Duke but in this instance she is). We've got our own government and make our own laws. We're not part of the UK or the EU for that matter. So no referendum on "Brexit" for us as we were never in.

I've added a link to the photos that should work. Out of interest, did my links in the OP work for you? I've not used Google photos before.

The last of our apprentices doing the C&G 6161 as I did are finishing this year. I have been asked a couple of times if the older qualifications are any use in the UK and so far I've not been able to give a good answer so hopefully someone (maybe an employer or as you say a trainer) will come along and tell me what their reaction would be to my presenting these certificates.

I can't see a rpblem with your qualifications as they are level 3 and I'm assuming you have experience in plumbing and gas to back these up?
The main issue / concern that you may come across (given its Guernsey and as you have pointed out not a part of the EU) .... Is that you will not be trained and certified to meet the relevant laws that cover plumbing and gas in the UK i.e. Gas regs, water regs etc.
My advice would be to contact one of the many institutes such as cIPHE, APHE, BPEC and gas safe, they may confirm if you are covered and valid to work here with your particular certs and give you advice on any add ons you may need to make you valid for work.......

Just some thoughts, best of luck.

Thanks for the info, Toggles. Much appreciated. I don't plan on leaving the island as I'm born 'n' bred and I have a steady job here which I love but get asked this question occasionally by some of our past students. Cheers.

I would still take someone on with experience over qualifications

Thanks for the reply, Chalked. I fully appreciate that. I have met many people in all manner of roles who are qualified up to the eyeballs but they are still completely clueless when it comes to actually doing the job. I believe qualifications are as much about getting your foot in the door, so to speak, and 80-90% of a persons value is in their experience, not their papers. Everyone has to start somewhere though!
