Hi Folks,

I appreciate I have to make my own decisions, I'm just looking for experienced peoples thoughts on my plumbing/heating future.

I've nearly completed my C & G Level 3 (haven't done my NVQ) in plumbing/heating and am wondering what to consider as a future use of the qualifications. I'm 47, and am self employed in a small horticultural business. I intended to become qualified so that I could install integrated heating systems, something that still interests me, and maybe create a company that could still bring me an income should I wish to take a step back. I'm happy to think long term. There is a possible opportunity at a local college as a technician earning good money, good holidays and it's all reliable rather than the no work, no money situation of self employment.

Are there any thoughts about what is a good aspect of plumbing to get into looking to future work/income?

Thanks

Mike

Take the technician job and have a happy life. There may also be opportunities for teaching in the future, with full-time 16-19 education and training. The future does not look the same for the plumbing industry with growing competition for even the smallest of jobs.
