On a similar note, the last time I fitted an expensive kitchen tap the guarantee was only valid if said tap was fitted by a plumber with a minimum NVQ 2. Some of these taps can cost a lot of money and I don't know how you'ld stand if they claimed on a fault if they wanted to see your certs.

Wouldn't it be their fault for not checking if you had certs. As long as you didn't lie about it

Not so good for customer relations or repeat work though. Dont want to be a bodge it and scarper man.

This is why I think people should know their local tradesmen. Maybe talk to the odd neighbour, and ask around for a recomendation!

Maybe that's not realistic in big cities, but it would be nice. Instead of us paying trustatrader, or checkatrade so we can find work.

I think it stinks to have to pay a middleman for joe public to review your standard of work. It's pure madness!

BTW - I am no longer a member of checkatrade, haven't been since they started charging the trades, which was about 3 years ago I think.

Oh nice ! My view is why do we pay likes of chekatrade and all them just to show our certs !

Personally I won't have anything to do with these advertisers. And as a trade we should boycott them, it's just another bill to pay. Another thing you think you need to have to stay in the game.

Too many cowboys and DIY handy men on those sites, I refuse to lower myself and advertise alongside them.

I didn't mind being on there when it was free of charge. Just like Yell.com, but once they called me to say they were charging, I just said "goodbye".

Going back to being asked for certificates; anyone think it's a good or bad idea to display your qualification and insurance certs on your website? Pro's and cons if you get me?

A big risk for them surely?
Suppose, I'm just trying to think of a worst case scenario that might arise from telling the customer you have liability insurance. I think the pro's will obviously outweigh the cons then.
