1,000nds of B. G. customers have suffered this year because of frozen condenser boiler drainpipes.
Their engineer smashed my elderly aunts plastic pipe with a hammer but it still froze on the elbow. 😡 I lagged this after repairing and found it successful.😀 Their engineer returned to repair the pipe and removed all I had done for inspection. On leaving, he told my aunt to purchase proper lagging and left mine on the floor 😡
British Gas stated that they could fit a Tracer Heater FREE if the boiler was purchased less than 2 years ago or if older, it would cost her £200.
I argued with their manager stating that this boiler was recommended by their saleswoman 4 years ago and my elderly aunt also took out a Home Care Policy for full protection in winter, therefore, it was their responsibility to install this modification (heat tracer) FREE of CHARGE as it has been an after thought on this particular designed boiler.
They did not argue my point and fitted it FREE. 😉 😀

Alls well that ends well,🙂

sure they will make their money back through excessive cover premiums

imho

If BG fitted the condense pipe properly in the 1st place, with the correct fall and lagged, then it would of never froze!!

When will people learn that BG arent that good!

Totally agree with you Alpha man.
They originally fitted a 4foot drop pipe vertically and stuck another 3foot pipe at 90degrees to the drain. I modified this by removing the parallel pipe and then angled the vertical pipe at 45degrees to the drain with heavy lagging, which worked o.k. at -10 degrees.
Their engineer undid all this and re-stuck the parallel pipe and repositioned the vertical pipe at 90 degrees, thick or what!.
