If its a natural draught balanced flue it is very unlikely you will get an approved flue modification. You will have to get a GSR engineer to move the heater to a more appropriate position.

Screw the window shut, you won't get any flue parts for an old water heater.

You'll probably find it was fitted about 20 years ago by BG, to close to window, but if you complain to GS thy tell you its NCS, come across loads of them in Plymouth area.

Products of combustion entering building is defo ID GIUSP 4.2 and its a riddor! Get GS to read own documents.

Had same BG installed celcia with a snorkel opposed to a vertical flue under a bathroom window adjacent to groundfloor velux . Feel sorry for installer.... Only had a 15mm drill bit, had to step down to 15mm to get through wall. Gas run only 35 m ish. Expect bp and gas rate were fine for the 12 years BG serviced it?

Just because there is a screw in the window does not stop the next tenant or occupier from unscrewing it

It might not be stated, but I do recall someone getting a criminal record for doing so. Because it went **** up and some people got poisoned because of it. Down west country way.

But it is in place as a guide line its still about POC entering a building, we know that this post is about the location of this flue, So what happens then the guy is saying he has fumes coming in the window, you attend, POC are below the 10% guide line would you class it as ID or NTC, And what is the rule about screwing shut the window, would someone from GS give us the correct answer ! can it be done or not ? or will they not commit to a answer ? (Your the engineer on site you make the decision) When did this become illegal.

Once told to do a risk assessment, document what I found to justify my decision. I'm of the school if thought that if poc has been reported, flue is in wrong place and when I'm there flue products come near window it's an ID .

If another engineer wants his balls under the hammer he can reconnect!

Yes I understand your opinion on this, all I am asking is, what does GS say about screwing the window shut, some one states it is illegal can we get some confirmation one way or another, as everyone interprets things differently. WILL GS EXCEPT A WINDOW BEING SCREWD SHUT ???

I think simply screwing it shut doesn't render it non opening, same as removing handle. Grip fill, screws and a silicone type seal would make the window un openable. But then this could be a problem if kitchen didn't have a door to outside for ventilation?

I think there is a little stubbornness here

If a window is openable it is illegal

Regardless of how you open that window. If it opens it opens

A screw may just be a very weird security device.

Like already said. If you want to leave a job in the situation and you want to be the one who is responsible for any death then by all means do

I can't see how reading a document will make it ok to turn a boiler off for this scenario just turn it off.
