Trying to seal a bristan regency deck mounted filler to an old (but just referbished) cast iron bath. The width of the unit is 180cm to the pipe centres and 230cm across the whole unit. The tail pipe holes on the bath are diamond with the width from the outer edges being just shy of 230 cm. As a result the gasket that fits between the tap and the bath is getting cut on the pipe holes as you tighten up the back nuts. Also having problems getting a water tight seal. Tried running silicone between the tap and the gasket, between the gasket and the bath and finally around the pipes once the tap is in place (before the washer and the backnut are put in place). Left for 24 hours to dry off, but a week later it is leaking around the pipes when we have a shower (and its definately not the plumbing itself that is leaking).

What did I do wrong on the install and are there are any additional tips to help sort this out?

If it was me I'd tighten the taps in place taking care to leave any part of the hole visible then run a bead of clear mastic around where the base of taps meet the bath. No way it'll leak if done properly.

Will be tricky to get it to look nice and neat. I'd be tempted to pay a few quid to a professional mastic man to do it so it looks good.

Good luck with it.
