Can't be an approved plumber without an nvq. He's probably changed career from a groundworker to a plumber and listing his groundworking experience. It's not doing him any favours though as the saying goes jack of all trades, master of none.

Yes you can, there are other routes - one of them is called experience, remember the original true apprenticeships were time served not book/lecture theatre based.

I also thought that City and Guilds issued NVQ's 🙂 Qualifications Explained - NVQ, SVQ, VRQ | City & Guilds

Having said that, qualifications are not an indication of quality of workmanship or capability to do the work - I know, I've sacked loads of so called 'plumbers' as well as many so called 'electricians'.

You are correct in that city and guilds offer NVQ's. He doesn't specify NVQ Level 2. Just City & guilds level 2.
Experience doesnt count as an approved plumber by WRAS. It has to be an NVQ or the new BPEC Watersafe scheme. I'm with you on the rest though as some so called level 2-3 plumbers are pants and some time served with zero papers are very good.

How you go from this to general plumbing is beyond me I just think its a bloke spreading himself thin Ive had 29 years in the construction ind, still dont beleive i can do it all lol ?

Some people are very capable practical individuals, some never bother to get the badges, some do.

I have one lad I took on as an apprentice three years ago, within 18 months I put him through his formal Electrical Qualifications, He's also F-gas certified, has ipaf, pasma, asbestos removal, and plumbing and heating qualifications... He is capable of installing and commissioning air source, ground source heat pumps, biomass boilers, solar PV and solar thermal. Not only has he got all the badges to prove it, he's also capable of doing it. (I keep him busy 🙂 )
p.s. we don't touch oil or gas 🙂
