Hi all,

I have just installed an outside tap and run it off of the supply from my kitchen cold tap water supply. I used a tee piece, isolator valve etc. I used boss white on all the joins. Working fine however the wife complained that the water tasted funky. Checked online and discovered it's not safe for potable water... So, guessing I need to take it all apart and use Boss Green instead. My question is, do I need to replace all the fittings/pipes or can they just be cleaned somehow?

It's already been fitted, I'd just flush your pipework through.

Oh, and no swearing please!
 
Really? Even if unsafe? Wont it release particles every time the water is passed? I don't think what I said is classed as swearing - it was a light heated abbreviation.
 
have you got washing machine hoses nearby? I only ask as I once installed an outside tap for someone and the rubber in the washing machine hoses made the water taste funky. I had to put a non return valve in next to the hoses and it stopped the funky tasting water.
 
Because it's not just about the taste - it's about the poisonous/toxic ingredients in the compound. The taste drew my attention to the issue; that is all. Also, I wanted to get more than one persons opinion.
 
Yes we do however that's been there for last 5 years and taste only noticed yesterday after outside tap installation. Thanks for the suggestion though.
 
However you see it, it is against the forum rules which you agreed to when you signed up.

If you go and reread them you'll also find out my word is the final one on the matter.
 
Thats why it says on the side of the tub. Not suitable for potable water. Take it out flush it through, jobs a good un.

Oh and a learning point for the future rtfm.
 
Ok, thank you for the advice. To clarify, you think i can just reuse the same parts after cleaning them?
 
Or just replace all the pipe work in the surrounding area if it'll give you better piece of mind, although id just remove all compound and flush it through by leaving the taps open for an hour or so
 
We will never know the answer to that one mate as croppie was lurking finger on button ready to protect us all from rude words. lol

Leaving the mains water tap on for an hour or so...? I guess your not on a water meter!!
 
all this worry for a bit of boss white. we've all done it by accident one time or another. No casualties as yet from me
