broken boiler - who do I trust?!

View the thread, titled "broken boiler - who do I trust?!" which is posted in Boiler Advice Forum on UK Plumbers Forums.

Dear everyone
I am pleased to announce that the pcb has been replaced and that I have hot water and heating. I got chatting to 'my guy' and explained that what may have come across as hesitation, and even slight suspicion, stemmed from my past experiences. Good and, again, enlightening chat.

He ended up charging me £165 for the board and £70 for labour (plus VAT). I'm happy and I think he was happy too.

Cheers everyone, No-Longer-Freezing-in Hackney

PS 'not a boiler I would put on my shopping list' noted Puddle, thanks. It's what I moved in to and hasn't given me a problem for 6 years so not all bad. However, now I am more informed, I shall certainly do my research when it comes time replace it.

I wrote to Toshiba enclosing estimate (from Tosh dealer) and asked them to
consider meeting part of the cost, as I had bought the tv based on their
advertised quality and reliability.
They contacted the dealer (not me) within a week and agreed to pay £400
towards the repair.
I would have liked more 🙂 but I thought it was fair as we had had almost
three years use out of it. You can visit Plummer for more info.
