Scenario:
Y plan
Programmer in kitchen
Wiring centre in a/c
If you were wiring from programmer to wiring centre what cable would you use?
Searched for this but tbh never found conclusion

Due to Cable run i'm thinking fixed wiring.
Need 5 cores at the programmer but only finding this in flex.
Read about communication multicore cable but im sure sparks dont use this for this situation.
On site ive only ever noticed the boiler to prog on flex.
So looking for 5 or 5 core and earth in fixed insulated cable as in twin and earth.

Just done baxi controls course and for the practical purposes they used 1.5mm singles.
Ive come away and starting thinking, hence this thread.

I know 0.75mm cable minimum required but I have wired a prog in past with multicores for a spark but didnt really notice what was used at the time on the first fix.

You are over thinking this. Just use two lengths of 1.0mm (or bigger) 3 core and earth flat grey cable. Or three lengths of twin and earth.

They do not make 4/5 core cable (not flex) as it's rarely needed, expensive and you are likely to get problems with induced current on long runs with two many cables too close together. And cables will heat up more.

Overthinking, absolutely. I can remember 2nd fixing prog while bck and having grey and black wires but cant remember if there were one or two cables.

You get someone to wire everything in 2h and then you keep your customer happy ! Unless you tray and screw it up and take you all day and future problems with customer !
just what I would do if I was unsure tbh
where a outs are you , I am sure there will be some one near you that will be happy to help you

Use three core and earth and twin and earth. No confusing cables then or get someone else to wire it, like me and Stan.

Not got one to do, this is all for future ref.

I just like to fully understand the systems I'm likely to come across both plumbing wise and electrical.
Prob with new build, you only ever get to do "part" of the job. I don't want to be part of the " thats an electricians job, so I'm out" brigade when fault finding etc...

Wiring in walls etc should be fixed cable. Flexible cable should only be used externally where you can clamp the cable where it's terminated.

So you need 2 lengths of 3 core and some coloured sleeving as albatross says

You should've covered wiring as part of your level 3. I did and it was quite in depth.

Download the honeywell wiring app, it's very helpful

Level 3 electrical covered wiring/ circuits/running cable etc but didnt touch wiring central heating controls. Apparently thats covered on am2?

Level 3 plumbing I never did. Did gas as a cat2 and unvented as a separate.

I know it should be fixed wiring but have read many threads on different forums this weekend where sparks run flex hidden in walls.

You should learn wiring your ch systems as if you don't you would not be able to repair traditional systems

Im crap at wiring y plans, but I can still fault find on them. Sparks can wire them but they don't understand them.
