We are in the process of planning the replacement of several communal hot water and heating pipes, and in some cases it is unclear what is the flow direction. which is direction of the flow. Can you reccomend some high quality flow indicators for 1'' to 1 1/2 '' pipes? Thanks

Can’t you do the old simple thing of waiting until cool then run / turn on that zone and see which end gets hot first ?

If you decide to rent an ultrasonic flow meter (ca £250 for a week) check that its minimum flow rate (typically 0.1 m/s – 0.2 m/s) is low enough for you to be able to see what you need. The flow-speed in heating pipes can be quite low. e.g. 0.1 m/s in a 1inch ID pipe is about 3 litre / min.

Thanks. I did not know that such a thing existed, but as you wrote flow speed in the pipes may be too for this. Will keep it in mind nevertheless. Thanks.
