Hi,

We need to replace CH copper pipes at ground floor which are under the screed and are bit more than 35 years old. We just fixed one leak and realized there is another leak somewhere. So it is better to replace all of it with new pipe work.

By brother who is plumbing engineer in India highly recommended PPR pipes because they do not corrode like copper, heat loss is less, cost less and are very reliable. They use PPR PN20 rating pipe in their hot water circulation system which runs at 4 bar.

Is this common among plumbers in UK to use PPR pipes now a days? Any downsides of using PPR pipe in CH which you expert plumbers can recommend as per your experience? Is it easily available?

Thanks for your comments

welcome along.

Take a look at screwfix or toolstation for an idea of what you can get off the shelf.

Have seen ppr in a few new builds on some army barracks but that's commercial. Company I work for piped a 6 bed house 1st fix in ppr as an alternative to copper and no problems. Was only due to the site being insecure and previous break ins. I wasn't involved in job so have no physical experience using it. Its not your run of the mill jointing method, especially in domestic.
I like the look of it, the jointing method as it melts together, there is technically no joint. Prevents chances of future leaks and doesn't corrode. Same as PE electrofusion but different method. Aquatherm is what I see installed, the green pipe. Check out their website. They may sell direct or via merchants so check on web.

tbh as above and i would be surprised if you find a supplier that will sell in short batches (not big orders) and its a pain to work with,

would be better putting the pipes in a duct
