Changing cistern inlet valve

The inlet valve in the toilet cistern is quite noisy so I would like to change it for a fluidmaster. I have replaced an inlet valve before, only took about 10 minutes and was very easy but I was simply changing like for like so didn't have to change any pipework. This time I will be removing a Derwent Macdee DVA0300 and replacing with a Fluidmaster bottom entry brass shank valve.

Is anyone able to advise me whether the threaded bottom end on inlet valves is a standard length, I am trying to determine whether the 2 valves can be swapped straight over without having to change any of the existing pipework.

Advise appreciated.

In an attempt to quieten down the Macdee valve I inserted a spiral flow reducer into the inlet of the valve which improved things a bit and stopped the big 'thump' when the valve cut off but I am hoping the Fluidmaster will be even quieter.

Should I still use a flow reducer with the Fluidmaster?

the fluidmaster will come with one, just fit it as per instructions you will be fine.

the length isn't always exactly standard in my experience but only varies but a couple of mm so unless you have absolutely no play whatsoever in pipework it shouldn't be an issue. i took out and old looking weird one out of a loo once and had to cut some of the thread off below cistern to get it out as it was catching on syphon. then i found it had a longer thread than any other valve i had and was connected to an elbow coming straight out of a tiled wall which was as rigid as a cliff face.
