Gone Fishing

Hi my name is Tom and I'm currently taking the level 2 City and Guilds course at my local college, I am working full time alongside the course and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm hoping that a plumber from York will read this and give me a shot to take me on for my second year and to ultimately become fully qualified.

I'm 28 years old, I hold a full clean driving licence and I have a CSCS card to allow me on site. I'm currently taxi driving which is fine and I'm enjoying that too, but I want to make plumbing a career.

If any of you guys want somebody dedicated and reliable, please get in touch via private message or post on this thread and I'll be happy to meet for a chat and to hand you a CV.

I am realistic about the drop in wages for this training year, I'm under no illusions and I have made allowances to cope.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Tom

That sounds great, even if I could help you out with these houses that would be brilliant for me to learn. I'll message you my contact details.

I would just like to thank Chalked for giving me some insight into the world of plumbing, certain things that college can't teach. I was very impressed by his professionalism, use of quality materials when skimping would be easy, he does not compromise, even on the small things and his willingness to teach is very good.

I earn fairly well in the job that I'm currently doing so it's a difficult transition to the next step of training, but I am committed to doing it and I'm going to do the NVQ 2 first, but I'm paying in full and doing it flexibly, when I find somebody willing to allow me to help them part time around my current job that is.

I'll do it without pay, which is fine, I'm planning on approaching some people soon. I will succeed.

The government certainly don't make it easy for people like me and for employers.

Yes I would like to say well done Chalked, we get loads of these posts and most really struggle to get work to complete nvq's etc
Good luck Tom

Now heres a man who deserve to make it as a plumber, none of this "can I do my NVQ as a self employed person after completing my short college course" they understand that the real learning takes place when you work alongside a plumber on site.

Best of luck Mr Fishing

PS Develop in York are holding an Apprentice day shortly, aimed at employers, it might be worth attending or at least hanging around outside 😉

Top men both of you. Chalked for giving the lad a helping hand, and Tom for following through on your enquiry. The number of people posting here wanting a chance who then don't take up the help offered is staggering...
