Cleaning Magnetic Filters

Hi there I'm wondering if someone can advise me on the best way to clean the magnetic filter that's fitted on my sons central heating system. it's an easy thing to access, just by closing off aa inline valve and then removing the fitter for cleaning.

I've done it once about a year ago and I think it needs doing again. Trouble is last time I got in a real mess. The sticky black gunge just won't easily come off the magnet and when you scrape it off it sticks to everything it touches (like the sink). It turns what should be a few minutes work into an endless trauma.

I'd have thought it would have some method whereby the magnet could be kind of 'switched off' so that the gunk releases and comes off easily.

Any suggestions on the best way of going about it would be much appreciated.

If its a spirotech, it self cleans when you drain it... And unlike the plastic junk will never leak

Got two on the van yesterday. Got to use one today at the scrappie, bloke wouldn't believe that some metal was stainless so I used the magnet.

ive only cleaned out the magnaclean ones, the magnet part slips out of the sieve. quickly learnt to take them outside into a bucket of hot soapy water too 😉 saves the customers carpets getting black spots and also time from cleaning the sink out

Decent magnetic c/h filters should come supplied with a non magnetic dedicated
cleaning tool.........my commercial ones all have a heavily enginnered aluminium
cleaning 'spanner'.............centralheatking

why not follow the manufacturers instructions or as suggested get the gas safe engineer to do it when the boiler is serviced.

Should get my first one fitted early next week. I've then got to go back at the back end of April to do some bathroom works for the same people.

I fitted mine yesterday. Will try to make a video today when I go back to clean out but I have a sneaky suspicion it's quite a clean system.

make sure you have a spare lid o ring otherwise adey will charge you a tenner and just check how old the filter is because if the valves are of the old filter the valves will start leaking

its unlikely to have any leaks tbh, just go for it.

why is he taking the lid off I understood you could just flush them clean!
