Combi boiler for 1 bed flat?

View the thread, titled "Combi boiler for 1 bed flat?" which is posted in Boiler Advice Forum on UK Plumbers Forums.

My Daughter is looking to get the Combi boiler replaced in her one bedroom flat. The existing boiler is a very old Vaillant unit which is developing problems - it needs to be reset regularly.

She has had quotes from British Gas and from an independent company. British Gas proposed a Vaillant ecoFIT Pure 830 boiler and the Independent proposed a Worcester Bosch 25Si. I have Googled both and can't see anything that would favour one over the other. Any suggestions as to which is likely to be better?

The Independent has also proposed a Comfort II programmable room thermostat but I am inclined to suggest a Wave Smart Control which can be adjusted by means of a Mobile Phone App instead. Has anyone any experience with either and comments about their reliability?

Finally, the Independent has also proposed a Chemical PowerFlush, a Magnetic filter and new Thermostatic Controls on all the radiators. Does all of this make sense? How likely is it that the PowerFlush will result in leaks in the pipework or the radiators?

Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

I would go with the independent and either nest or hive unless you want the extra warrenty

What size combi is being replaced - one is offering a 30kw and one is offering a 25kw?

What warranty are each offering?

Not sure about Vaillant, but the Worcester after sales in my opinion is great. They don't often quibble the warranty either.

Fit a lot of Glowworm boilers with naff after sales and technical support. Also always try and get out of warranty jobs. (Glowworm are a subsidery of Vaillant, so would imagine them to be similar?)

I have Never had an issue with Vaillant aftercare.

I'd go with independent one too. He also pointed out of changing thermostatic rad valves which indicates he cares a little about your setup as well as the power flush prior to the installation. Both boiler brands are great - but according to few gas safe engineers on this forum vaillant is not as great in after care. What warranty are you getting for the boilers ? Is the independed registered with either one of the boiler brands ? That's could help you to extend the warranty

I would go with Vaillant and a vSmart WiFi controller but using an independent. I much prefer Vaillant as a brand and have never had any problens with the aftercare. 7 year warranty that can be upgraded to 10 years.
