My mother in laws boiler has packed up ... A friend of hers has suggested that the condense pipe might be frozen.

Would this stop the boiler working? And if this is the case how can it be prevented in the future as she is in her 80's

Thanks

Yes this would stop the boiler as condensated water would back up into heat exchanger

I've just been out to look at ours ..... One large staligtite hanging off the end...

Should it be lagged?

Thanks guys ................ my resourceful mother in law used kettles of hot water to defrost the pipe and then reset the boiler ............. its all working again - so that's saved me a 90 mile round trip tomorrow.

The GSR man who looks after her boiler hasn't yet returned her call, which is disappointing.

The boiler is a Worcester Greenstar Ri

He will be snowed under or ignorant 😀

I’ve been in garden for three hours thawing pipe with kettle..all working now but boiler is dripping water from underneath? And a loud grinding noise quite frequently..out of hours contractor can’t come out but on phone he said that the water isn’t anything to worry about and it’s just where steam hasn’t been able to escape and will sort itself out..didn’t say anything much about noise..should I be worried over the weekend until I can get the usual contractor to come and sort?
