Costs of an FGA

Now that we all need CPA1 from April I thought it might be useful to start some kind of feedback on use and costs of the various analysers on the market. I use an Anton which is very good but the cost of recalibration and repair seem to be high. Their turnaround time also isn't great. I have a colleague with a Kane infrared which he is pleased with although it did have to be returned under warranty a couple of times.

Perhaps if we share experiences we may be able to influence this market rather than just take what they deign to offer us.

Manufacturers can get you with re calibration charges and repairs ,once they have enticed you to but their product with some special deal

Out of interest what license if any or organisation membership do re-calibration centers need ?

think you can get a kane 455 and boiler test probe for £399 incl VAT at the mo, if you need any of the other bits and pieces then obviously there are additional costs, 5yr warrenty with fixed calibration fee of £85 per yr

I think the bottom line is we let them run out and get them redone when we are flush, I am still on my first roll of paper and on my 3 rd year now and well overdue

My Telegan Sprint stops working when it requires calibration.

It is now 6 years old and has been calibrated every year with new sensors every other year.

The worst thing is the turnaround for the calibration.

On average it has taken 12/14 days, I have used Telegan and even tried an independent company in Poole {unit came back with same fault/ sent back came back with cracked screen/ wasnt happy 3 weeks in total}

you sayin, you not had calibration for 3 years, how do you know accurate readings?

Kane is not just £85 a year for calibration.That is the 1st year fee.2nd year is more as the sensors are changed.

However you do get a good turn around,or atleast I do.

I have a kane and just go it calibrated, For my first service it cost £84 + VAT... according to the kane web site it is £84 each year, whether replacing sensors or not....

not to sure how that works mind !!!

I like my Anton but just had it recalibrated and it took nearly three weeks for a first year recalibration which their own engineer told me was nothing of a job which in my opinion is far too long

i was advised it is a five yr fixed price service contract linked to the five yr warrenty for a fee of £85 every yr, i will check with the rep and report back to confirm

this is what the rep told me re the difference between the 425 and 455, with the 425 cheaper to buy but more expensive to service
