Just sat here relaxing, 9 oclock at night, ring ring, is that the plumber, Ive got issues with my oil boiler can I run through some questions now, I know its late but I have to work during the day.

Oh said I, me to, down receiver and the missus was wetting herself, Its not an emergency, there isnt water oil everywhere, so why bloody ruin my evening?

Why is it they wont call their dentist, garage, oil supplier etc etc but they think its fine to disturb a plumber heating techie when he will obviously be at home with their families, excuse me but fecking assholes. I feel better now. dont care I've lost a job prehaps they'll learn some manners. aaaaaaaaah rant over and breathe

just to point out, this is like the 10th post ranting about customers this week!! this forum is becoming obsessed with ranting about customers!!

I've gotta admit a lot of my customers would go the night wit no heating and phone in the morning and I say to them you shouldve phoned last night. They say oh I didn't like to bother you . Ah bless yur sole .... You get great custards aswell lol

I'd rather be annoyed by them than not have any, anyway. There's always voicemail.

dont yours ring u at unsocial hours 🙂

Yeah its called voicemail, if its urgent they will leave a message then I get a choice whether to ring them back or not.

In this circumstance I would of said, "I will pop round tonight, £150 per hour" they usually reply with "its not urgent" so I say, "shall I book you in for next week then?"

No stress, no lost customer, everyone's happy.

The problem I find is that the majority of the complaints are about customers calling at all hours, yet most people complaining are helping people on this forum for free until late at night!!

Why don't you get a phone number set up that charges an extortionate rate when people call after hours. That way, everybody's a winner. If somebody is paying a tenner a min, they'll soon think twice and call you back in the morning.

In fact, I think Ive hit on something there....

Plumbing helpline!! love it!! £1 per minute, work from home!!

I can remember when my nipper was phoning a certain Coventry plumber, of an evening, around 7.30'ish, prospecting for employment.
Plumbers phone rings> plumber picks up the phone, and says, "Who the F***'s this!?"

What cracked me up is his website states in big n bold 24HOUR EMERGENCY CALL OUT.

I must say I don't get many like that. Most will phone at half decent times and I don't mind answering the phone up to 7pm after that it can go to answer phone if they leave a message I will listen to it if it is urgent I might phone them back depending on what I'm doing, if I can't phone and it is an emergency then I will text them back stating I can't answer phone and that I will not be able to help them until whenever I can.

Oh but 1 thing I will say is who can't make a phone call during the day? There might be a couple of professions that can't but everybody has a lunch break and most bosses don't mind you making a 5 minute personal call to have a boiler repaired.

I agree with Jase, I just wouldn't answer it if I didn't want to speak to someone. Let them leave a message and either call them back straight away if an emergency or call them in the morning if its not. Its no big deal them calling, I have customers call me in the evenings or text me or email me. Its up to me if I want to respond or not, I am in a service industry and try to provide as good a service as I can to my customers to build a good reputation, get recommendations and hopefully expand.

On the other hand, people call during the day to book stuff in. I don't carry a diary, and if I did I wouldn't drop a hand full of spanner sand run to thee can!

you dont seem to get the fact that I am moaning about the fact that goods manners have gone out the window, in the fact that people no longer consider it an intrusion to call at all hours, the latest or earliest was 1am once to let me know they couldnt work the new boiler I installed a year previously!!

I find the least stressful method to lose that type of customer, I prefer working for polite folks with a bit of consideration in their dealings with tradesmen.

If its a genuine emergency, not an issue off I go, at a rate according to the hour.

re this forum and helping folks, its a method of winding down for me, nothing to do with idiot customers, so not really relevant.
