lame plumber

went to a rayburn royal today, landlord did a service 2 weeks back, but tenant moaning about fumes, so on arrival gave the flue a tap, and this appeared below the draught diverter, my clue to the morning ahead 🙂

shortly thereafter on lifting the hot plate loads of soot and something I hadnt seen before, the rear of the combustion area all tarred up, as was the interior of the twin wall flue as was the top pipes on the flue!! god knows how this 20 year old range hadnt killed someone yet. Problem made worse by the new windows he installed recently, not a vent in sight 🙂

Cleaned it all up, adviced as to the way ahead gave the man a big bill 🙂 probably wont see him again, muppets!!!!!!!

likewise, but never down the rear wall of the burner chamber, totally covered and solid, put it down to the fact there was no fire cement seal going to oven side at all and poor flue draft etc, house must have stunk. told land lord he should have a co alarm, so back he came with one, I checked the date on it 2002 , with a 5 year lifespan!!!!!!!!!!, reinstructed the pratt!

Oh happy days....I have all this to look forward to. One of m'chums is retiring and gifting me appx 50 Aga/ Rayburn vapourising customers...Ive never touched a vapouriser (yes, yes, Ill do all the learnin..). He says to avoid the Nouvelle and the Oft22? He says avoid the pot boilers...or something I cant recall. I will spend some time with him at first, do the first dozen together. 🙂

not had to scrape layers of tar off before, have you seen that in your travels ?

Something's kicking the back of my head and saying "Check the oil".

I vaguely remember someone telling me he found a tarry build up in a boiler. Turned out the tenant had filled the tank with bio oil. The burner was set for 28sec.

dont think that was the issue today, I wondered if it was diesel in the mix, but 2 other rayburns are all working ok off the same tank of oil, 3500 litres, no filters fitted on any of the lines anywhere!! all sat under a couple of yew trees dumping crud on the tank
