Hi, i have been asked to look at a toilet (close coupled) with a duel flush that doesnt close after flushing. when it has flushed the water which should start filling the cistern just runs down into the pan and the button will not pop back up! i can get it to close if i 'wiggle' the button so the cable straightens out. i am not sure if the problem is with the button, cable or the seal between the cistern and pan.

any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

i've had this problem with a customer's toilet turned out to be the button catching if it wasn't pushed in squarely.

i'm also thinking cable but the toilet has been installed for approx 2 years but it this problem has only started yeasterday. is there any chance the seal at the bottom of the mech can be broken down or swollen causing it to stick?

It's supposed to break. That's why they are sold. This design was outlawed 140 years ago cz it's crap. And brought back into use in 1999 and it's still crap. Fit and forget flushing systems [read siphons]aren't encouraged nowadays cz they're no good for business.

is a new mech the best option then or is it worth taking it out n having a look? do they all end up with this kind of problem in the end?

As gas man says take it out and fit a good quality one, because their are some really rubbish ones about that dont last 2 mins.

oops just edited as ive noticed you have !
