Hi,
We live in a 3rd floor (top floor) city apartment and the en suite bathroom smells like sulfur/rotten eggs, but only at night. When getting ready for bed at about 11pm, within a few seconds of running the sink, the smell starts. It can be really pungent sometimes, but not others. We've had a filter/trap from behind the sink changed and the base of the toilet has been changed because sometimes the smell seems like its coming from the gap where the cistern meets the base. The plumber has also been in the loft space looking at the vents and says they're fine. Unfortunately as the smell only happens late at night, the plumber has never been able to smell it or try to work out where the smell comes from. It never smells during the day regardless of how much water I run, hot or cold. The apartment block is a new build and we've only been living in it for about 3months. The family bathroom and kitchen never smell. The plumber is stumped and so are we. Anyone got any ideas?!?!?!?!?
Thanks 🙂

sounds like traps are blowing or syphoning from one or more of your sanitary appliances.
when you can detect the smell place a straw down the plug hole of your bath basin and shower tray(if have one) when you remove the straw you are looking for about 75mm of it to be wet ifn its not replace traps with anti syphon traps

either that or get plumber to take trap off and see if you get smell, if so then try the above on each trap and you should find your culprit,

I have a unusual idea what it can be. I could be wrong but worth checking. Check your light fitting first!!!! When you turn light on at night & it heats up it can make very bad pong! Some plastics were made of fish oil. if not , check overflow of basin is not bunged up, as this makes pong when basin used.

Wasn't there a thread on here before about this? Can't remember what the cause was in the end but someone had suggested bacteria in the hot water?!
