Hello,

So the Father in law has had his house externally insulated, you know the big foam blocks that they stick on the outside then render. He paid £3,000.

He has a combi and where the flue is they have not put any foam bricks. They have left a square about 18- 24 inch.
The foam is about 5" deep.

It looks a bit silly. Personally I think a new flue should have been put in. They put a new stack up but even that is a bit rough with a bandseal at the bottom showing.

What do you think?

ps. Like my new Avatar?

The only time they may not touch the flue is when the parts are not available. Then you need a window in the render around the flue that slopes in but meets the manufacturers clearances.

Thanks, so if the flue is still available they should have fitted one (sorry I'm confused) ?

IDChappy, You have a good point there.

Over the years I learnt the hard way and now discuss every possible situation with the customer. In fact nowadays I give them a marker pen and get them to chalk where things will go, Let then decide if they want a quick repair/ full re pipe etc.

Anyhow, Father in Law was not given any options, and didn't even think about the flue.

You'd have to look at the quote then buddy, if it doesn't mention it then in hindsight it should have been discussed but lesson learned? if it does and they aint done it then it's bust bum time 😉

mmmmm foam blocks to keep all that moisture in, its just like the smelly socks in your trainers issue, pity yr pa in law when the inside of his house turns black. re the flue, needs an extension as mentioned
